New District 1 Community Representative Appointed to KHS Board

Bakersfield, CA: Kern Health Systems wishes to announce the appointment of Michael T. Bowers as our newest member of our Board of Directors. Mr. Bowers was appointed by 1st District Kern County Supervisor Phillip Peters. Michael is currently the Vice President of Public Affairs and Government Relations for Centric Healthcare in Bakersfield. He has served on many boards and community campaigns in Kern County and has been newly appointed to the Planning Commission for the City of Bakersfield.

Mr. Bowers formerly served as the Deputy District Director for Senator Andy Vidak, 14th Senate District, and Senior Field Representative for Congressman David Valadao. In addition, he has partnered with a multitude of educational institutions, charity fundraisers, civil and justice advocacy projects, economic development training and community engagement projects that include; Housing & Opportunity of Kern (Chairman of the Board), Bakersfield Firefighters Burn Foundation (Board of Director), Kern Law Enforcement Foundation (Board of Director), Alzheimer's Association (Former Board of Director), Boys of Color (Mentor), Upside Academy, Inc. (Former Board of Director), The Patricia Jean Foundation (Board of Director) and Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Council (Member).

Kern Health Systems Board of Directors are appointed by the Kern County Board of Supervisors and consist of members of the health care community and members of the public. Representing health care are two physicians, a Federally Qualified Health Center, two hospitals and a pharmacist. Representing the public are two individuals from each of the five county districts. Board meetings are held bi-monthly and are open to the public.

The Chairman of the Kern Health Systems Governing Board, Tim McGlew, welcomed Michael by stating, “We are excited to have Michael as a Board of Director of an organization that has served our County for 25 years, and we look forward to the professional experience and knowledge he will bring to the service of our members and community.”
