Adult Expansion

Now more adults qualify for Medi-Cal!

Effective January 1, 2020, full scope Medi-Cal expanded to the young adult population. This includes young adults who are between the ages of 19-25. Young adults who do not have satisfactory immigration status or are unable to show proof of United States Citizenship now qualify for Medi-Cal.

Effective May 1, 2022, full scope Medi-Cal expanded to the adult population. This includes adults who are ages 50 and older. These adults who do not have satisfactory immigration status or are unable to show proof of United States Citizenship now qualify for Medi-Cal.

Apply Today!

  • Online. Visit BenefitCal to apply for benefits. This is a secure site, and all your information will be safe.
  • By phone. Call the Kern County Department of Human Services at 661.631.6807 or 877.410.8812 to see if you qualify for Medi-Cal.
  • In person. Talk to the Kern County Department of Human Services, doctor, clinic or visit a Family Resource Center in your community. Many of these offices have staff available who can help you apply.
