How do I become a member of Kern Family Health Care (KFHC)?
To become a member of Kern Family Health Care, you need to be eligible for Medi-Cal. Kern Family Health Care does not determine eligibility for these programs; the State of California makes eligibility determination. Once you apply and have qualified for this program, you can choose Kern Family Health Care as your Health Plan. Kern Family Health Care is chosen by more people who qualify for Medi-Cal than any other health plan in Kern County*.
If you are intersted in applying for Medi-Cal:
- Please call the Kern County Department of Human Services (DHS) at 1-877-410-8812, or visit www.c4yourself.com.
- Once you qualify, you need to fill out a Medi-Cal Choice Form from Health Care Options (HCO), the company that enrolls KFHC members. You can call HCO at 661-633-7201 or 1-800-430-4263 for assistance or go to a HCO Presentation in your community.
- Wait for HCO to send you a letter to let you know you are enrolled. This may take 15 to 45 days.
- Continue to use your regular Medi-Cal services while you are waiting.
